Men shaking hands

Rocscience regularly hires students as geotechnical interns to work with our engineers, contributing their fresh perspectives and academic talents towards the engineering software development process. The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) offers Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA) to stimulate student interest in research in the natural sciences and engineering, and to encourage graduate studies and research careers. The majority of our geotechnical interns have won this award.

During my four-month co-op term at Rocscience, I have worked closely in testing and verifying Rocfall and Phase2. It was great opportunity for me to see how engineering calculations and theories that I’ve learned in school can be applied in simulating typical real world problems that engineers face. Working in Rocscience improved my technical and research skills and equipped me for my future studies. I would definitely recommend Rocscience to students who are looking forward in using their school knowledge to real world engineering application. In addition the friendly atmosphere in Rocscience made the work so joyful and enjoyable.

My main focus this term at Rocscience was Phase3’s three-dimensional model rendering. This was particularly challenging since I’d never programmed anything professionally before, but everyone was very helpful and answered any questions I had. I learned a lot about programming, and a bunch of random information about rocks and soil. Rocscience has a wonderful atmosphere, challenging work and it’s full of great people. My only regret is that I never wrote down all the strange things they say. I’d read that Twitter feed.
